Daytrotter Session: The Ladybug Transistor

The Ladybug Transistor Brooklyn's finest popsmiths are the latest installment in the Daytrotter SXSW Sessions. Frontman Gary Olson shares his thoughts on SXSW in general, as well as the back-stories behind the four songs they performed for Daytrotter.

Gary Olson on SXSW:
My biggest celebrity sighting was seeing Pete Townsend walk out of a barbecue restaurant. The non-stop Mexican food was half the reason we made the trip and we were sure to keep ourselves well fed. Apples in Stereo played the best show I’ve ever seen them do. I love their new line-up with the twin keyboards and close harmonies. Seeing an uncrowded Au Revoir Simone show under a white tent while sipping a margarita was the most refreshing experience of my Austin visit. [Read More]

Ladybug Transistor Drummer Passes Away

San Fadyl We are saddened to relay news that Ladybug Transistor drummer San Fadyl passed away on the morning of Thursday, April 26th in Zurich, Switzerland. The cause of death was a severe asthma attack. Our thoughts are with San's friends and family.

A message from the Ladybug Transistor:
Dear Friends,

We are very sad and shocked to let you know that Ladybug drummer San Fadyl passed away on the morning of April 26th at his home in Zurich, Switzerland. San was hospitalized just a few weeks ago with serious asthma problems, something he's battled for a long time. After being treated and released he was home for a week but suffered a severe attack that was related to his condition.

It's hard to put into words just how much we will miss San after 10 years of music and friendship. He was a genuinely beautiful person that touched everyone who met him with his warmth, kindness, generosity and humor. His wide smile is something people often remember first. We know there are lots of you out there who love him and will miss him as much as we do already.

Our hearts are with San's family, his wife Brigit and their new baby Liam.

We've started this page so San's friends and fans can share their thoughts and feelings.

Consider Rook essential summer listening. Like your "Summer Reading" list, Rook isn't really "summer-y" at all. It's heavy, dense, dramatic and beautiful and dark. Four of those five adjectives actually DO apply to summer, come to think of it... - jimtarnation  [READ REVIEW]
