Raf Simons at Dior
Since designer Raf Simons was officially appointed the role of Dior’s chief designer, there has certainly be much speculation about what he will do with the much-love designer fashion brand. However, it seems that those in the know are already excited about the upcoming possibilities, and what Simons will bring in his first collection.
British designer John Galliano , Dior’s former chief, might have left the design house under rather negative circumstances, but his collections were a hit with followers of fashion around the world. Not only were his clothes instantaneously must-have pieces, but his catwalk hair and make-up also became frequent requests at everywhere from Rush London to Blush Boutique New York. His will certainly be difficult shoes to fill, and some have questioned whether or not Simons, who was sacked from his position at Jil Sander last Ferbruary, will be up to the job.
Yet whilst Simons previous would might not bear a great resemblance to that of the Dior brand, there is no doubting that he is an extremely talented designer – and perhaps more importantly, one with a fairly squeaky clean image. It is hoped that Simons will not bring a fresh look to the house of Dior, but also that he will help to restore the brand’s image, which had been tarnished somewhat by Galliano’s racism accusations.
Simons has previously proved to be a fan of contemporary clothing designs, as well as bold color palettes and fondness for knitwear. Although we won’t know exactly what the designer has in store for his first Dior collection until he makes his début in Paris this July, we can probably expect to see one or two of these themes cropping up within his work, which is sure to greatly anticipated within the fashion world.
